Further exciting info about Super/Man, The Christopher Reeve Story

You will recall on Sept. 1st, I sent you an email announcing the theatrical release of Super/Man, The Christopher Reeve Story, for two days, Sept. 21 and 25, which was Chris’ birthday.

I went to see the movie twice yesterday, and I think it is superb -- an extraordinary documentary that is true to the extraordinary man. It is an honest portrayal, primarily due to Chris’ 3 children’s involvement, as well as excellent filmmakers at the helm. In addition, another of its virtues is, it shows the world what a remarkable woman Dana Reeve was.

The documentary includes particularly splendid clips from Superman, and next, films he directed, and I’m pleased to report, Somewhere in Time clips outnumber those of Chris’ other movie roles.

They even included a clip from our documentary, “Christopher Reeve Returns to Mackinac”. We (Jim and I) feel honored about that very small ‘contribution’ to the production.

The film is touching, heartwarming and at moments heart-wrenching, yet it moves along briskly and is not overly sad -- so those who may fear that it could be too much for them, need not fear.

I’m writing today, because I had promised to keep you informed of any developments regarding its further release, and I am delighted to tell you that Chris’ son Will Reeve appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night (Wed) and announced that since the documentary has received such high critical acclaim and enthusiastic audience response, it will be widely released in theaters on October 11, nationally and worldwide. (That date is twenty years and one day after Chris’ untimely death.) Watch for it to come to a nearby theater.

I would not be surprised if it receives an Academy Award Nomination in the Documentary Film category.

I highly recommend you plan to see it…and hope you will make a point to do so.

People are getting out of wheelchairs and walking again, because of Chris. To honor this man, by viewing his story, keeps his memory alive, and we can also support Chris' and Dana’s goals of finding a cure for spinal cord paralysis (and other related disease) — as well as daily quality care for those in similar condition, through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

As Will so eloquently pointed out on Kimmel, when Chris was paralyzed, there was no ‘manual’ for Dana in dealing with such catastrophic injury, no list of resources to help with care (or insurance issues), and Dana "wrote the manual" which is now used in hospitals and rehab centers everywhere. Christopher and Dana Reeve were, and are such inspirational people, we owe them our attention and viewing of this special film.
